Princess Mononoke Symphonic Suite – Joe Hisaishi Vinyl LP

Joe Hisaishi turned his Princess Mononoke score into a full eight-movement symphonic suite, recorded in Prague with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra the year after the film came out. The movements follow Ashitaka's journey, from "The Legend of Ashitaka" and "Journey to the West" through "The Forest of the Deer God" and "Requiem," to the closing "Ashitaka and San." Heard as a concert piece, the music feels even grander and more emotional than in the film. This 2020 Studio Ghibli Records pressing was the suite's first vinyl release. The front jacket shows Ashitaka riding Yakul through the ancient forest, and the back has a glowing kodama by the water. The obi strip is included, and it's a moving pick for Ghibli and classical music fans alike.
